About Dr. Diane Aslanis

Dr. Diane Aslanis is a board certified osteopathic gynecologist and acupuncturist serving the Farmville area. In addition to traditional gynecological care, she specializes in Osteopathic Manipulation Therapy (OMT), dry needling, trigger point, manual therapy and acupuncture.

Dr. Aslanis takes the time to get to know her patients and help them figure out how to live a better life. She feels fortunate to be able to offer patients alternative healing modalities in addition to traditional allopathic medicine. One of her greatest privileges is seeing a patient leave her office able to move, run, dance and live their lives fully after being in pain for years.

“I believe that each patient is unique and therefore each treatment plan is individualized to the specific needs of each patient. Your office visit with me includes everything about your life, all the things that could/would impact your health. In my office, I am the the doctor, the receptionist, the scheduler, and I do the laundry, pick up after myself (and my patients). I do my best to help my patients, and if, between the two of us we can’t figure out what’s wrong, then I will try to help them find someone who will.”

MY JOURNEY

When I got my first degree in theater, I wanted to become an actress. I worked in and around NYC, but after some years, I realized show business wasn’t my purpose in life. Since I have always been fascinated by the human body, I decided to go to massage therapy school in Manhattan. As it was ending, I realized I wanted more information, more education. One of my massage instructors told me about osteopathic medicine and how it would provide me the ability to use a hands-on approach (literally!). I needed to go back to college for more science classes, and I ended up getting a degree in chemistry (along with the general chemistry and organic chemistry awards).

I was accepted to the osteopathic school in NJ and in an effort to be well rounded, I did a Rotating Family Practice Internship for a year in Jersey City, New Jersey. I enjoyed obstetrics and gynecology and I was accepted into a four-year residency in Far Rockaway, Queens, New York (the hospital was across the street from the local methadone clinic).

After residency, I served 3.5 years in the United States Air Force, stationed in Anchorage, AK and was sent to Iraq in 2004-2005, as a physician and surgeon. Upon returning from Iraq, I got a job in CT, but it was too busy there, so I looked for something that would give me time to see patients, listen and help take care of them. Farmville, VA seemed like a good place to go. I worked locally and then decided to start my own practice, where I would have both the time I wanted and my patients needed to practice medicine the old fashioned, personal and individualized way. My office is welcoming and homey and a place where I hope my patients feel well cared for and supported.
